The Trap of Reputation

Have you ever felt trapped between two (or more) decisions?

Left right or straight?

Did you ever wonder what triggered our decision?

We justify our decisions afterwards by citing the benefits or the pros of one over the cons of another. Perhaps one resulted in more money, more peace of mind, or more opportunity.

Those are only the justifications. What was the cause (for there has to be one)?

After the American Dream

What is left to dream?

Staring out from the sun...over time and space, nothing meaningful is out of our grasp. All that we've been told is essential is within it. Only bits of triumph remain to be corralled like the dust floating away.

A country's dream was never so significant. It's realization ever so scanty?

We declared.

And our story of how life should be came to pass as easy as the breeze that grazes everything in its way....but nothing can be said to really be its delay.

T-minus 250 years. T-minus a fraction of infinity.

What chimera are we creating today?

Who won't create it?

If you forge a better life, does everything that has passed cease to be? Do you find yourself lost, after the American Dream?

The Long Road to Democracy and Passion

If you google "how to find your passion" you are instantly rewarded with 35 million results.

Please tell me...how does somebody else know how to find your passion? 35 million people have an opinion for you, but most likely they are wrong. And I probably am too.

The more important question might be:

What happens if we actually discover our passion? As you'll discover, the answer isn't as appealing as you've been led to believe.

The Path to Worldwide Democracy = The Path to Passion

Can you name 15 nations in the world that are not a democracy? If you got to 10, great. There are 195 countries in the world today. That means that about 85%-90% are democratic.

Everyone Is Hypnotizing You

As you'll soon discover, and probably agree, people in power, advertisements, teachers, bloggers, and anyone you communicate with are easily affecting the way you act and think.

On subconscious level, you just agreed to that statement, did you not?

You see, just by telling you that you would probably agree, you did.

E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E

The next time you watch TV, pay close attention to the ads. If you're like most people you don't question what they are telling you to be.

Do You Crave Responsibility?

Responsibility doesn't seem like a fun, easy, care-free word.

It's usually associated with grudgingly taking action instead of doing what we really want to be doing.

Is it weird that I think responsibility is pretty fun, easy, and enjoyable?

Easy Street vs. Rewarding

I feel like a lot of my peers don't embrace responsibility. And some of them run as far away from it as possible.

Yet here I am embracing it, craving it, looking forward to it!

While others grasp to their college glory days, I'm grasping to the dream of playing catch with my son.

But why?

There's No Part-Time ______

One word.

When you think about what it means you think:

Dedication, Commitment, Family Bond, Respect, Until Death, Rules, Loyalty, Silence, Secrecy, Tight.

There are a lot of other words you can associate with it, but one thing it's not...it's never part-time.

Corporate Copy-Cats

If you wanted to create a group based on the values above, this is what you'd call it. And I'm talking about any type of group. It doesn't have to be a group remotely involved in any sort of illegal activity.

One Of These Days

(f'n Bruins)

There's a great Neil Young song that goes,

"One of these days
I'm gonna write a long letter
To all the good friends I've known.
And I'm gonna try
And thank them all
For all the good times together.
Though so so apart we've grown."

This got me thinking about the people I've known. I remember a lot of you, but I've forgotten just as many.

Why do we remember some people and not others?

The Challenge of Understanding

One of the things I have a hard time with is understanding people who are different from me.

I'm not sure why but sometimes I act defensively, ignorant, or sometimes just plain mean if I can't understand how someone else thinks/acts.

I know the standard advice is to be more open, or to just be accepting, but isn't there more to the differences between us? Maybe there is less?

I Love Democrats

People think its weird that the girlfriend I dumped the quickest was the one that seemed perfect for me. We were very similar, which just didn't do it for me.

You see, I've always been attracted to people who think differently than me. On my last day of middle school I can distinctly remember meeting a girl and my first thought was "I've never met anyone like her before." She was different and I was hooked.

Why do I become hooked so? I think differences challenge me, and I need to see them clearly, right in front of my face, to change for the better.

When Nothing Changes

It's hard to write when in a holding pattern.

The holding pattern isn't interesting. Its not dramatic. Its lessons are not readily apparent.

But it probably should be cherished. It's just not in my nature to revel in the status quo.

The Change That Isn't Happening

Since undertaking what I like to call my "unofficial life improvement" last July I've made a lot of life changes. I think most of them worked out. I carried them through, which is great.

A lot of those changes are in how and why I make decisions. Once I accepted these changes the actions just kind of flowed, and they still do.

Enjoy Your Thoughts

the upside down life, jarred alexandrov

I came across a really interesting quote today in a random article I was reading. I thought it a great way to look at life a little differently.

"I enjoy my thoughts rather than getting stuck in them"

This was from someone who was giving advice to someone else on how to overcome the pressure of the work/life balance.

Doesn't it seem like a practical way to eliminate a lot of unnecessary stress?

The Portal To My Life
Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you why I blog about most days right here

In west Worcester Mass born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys
Who were not from the hood
Started playing Magic cards all over the neighborhood
We'd also watch the Sox and play home-run derby
Yes, as you can tell, we were all pretty nerdy

Thankfully that led me into a great college
Where I learned how drink, to sing karaoke, and to develop some knowledge
At the end of that I had nothing to do
So I sold radio until I could sell nothing new

I whistled for a girl and she finally came near
Now I can smile every time I look in the mirror
If anything I can say her attitude was rare
But I thought 'This is pretty nice - I'm able to care!'

I've put up this blog to tell you my thoughts,
And I've yelled to a cabbie 'Yo homes smell ya later'
Please look at my site
You are finally here
And pass on the knowledge of my upside down glare
